Remove padding from pasted lines or collapse runs of whitespace into a single space. Choose the operation based on whether line breaks matter.
2. Prepare your input
Choose Trim lines when line boundaries matter, or Collapse whitespace for one flow of text. Keep the original code or table.
3. Follow a worked example
Trim lines changes " Hello " to "Hello" on each line. Collapse whitespace changes repeated spaces and line breaks into single spaces.
4. Check the result
Compare the output with the example and original. Check punctuation, case, spacing, line order and identifiers where relevant. Use the available copy or download action and inspect the result in the receiving application. Retain the source until the change is verified.
5. Can whitespace changes damage code or a table?
Yes. Indentation and line breaks can be meaningful in source code, tab-separated data, and poetry. Keep the original and inspect the result before replacing it.
6. Recover from an error
Try the small example first. Read the error message and check syntax and the selected operation. If output differs from your intention, return to the original and change one setting at a time. Formatting and conversion do not validate the meaning of data.
Try the workflow
Start with a small example and check the result before using your own data.
