1. Read the actual error and upload instructions

Identify whether the destination rejects the extension, pixel dimensions or number of bytes. A file ending in .jpg is not necessarily encoded as JPEG: renaming a PNG does not convert it. Requirements can change, so read the destination’s current instructions rather than relying on a generic preset.

2. Choose a maximum size and protect dimensions

Select your PNG, JPEG or WebP in the compressor. Choose Fit a maximum file size and enter the permitted KB maximum. Our tool uses decimal units: 100 KB means 100,000 bytes. It measures each JPEG and exports only a result at or below that maximum. Leave resizing unchecked if you must retain specific pixel dimensions.

3. Recover when quality alone cannot meet the limit

If the tool cannot fit the limit at the original dimensions, it shows an error instead of exporting an oversized file. Allow smaller dimensions only when the destination permits them, or increase the maximum if its rules allow that. Use the resizer for a required width; it preserves proportions and does not crop to a fixed aspect ratio.

4. Inspect the result before uploading

Check the measured bytes and dimensions in the result card and open the saved JPEG. Zoom in on small text, faces and sharp edges. JPEG compression loses detail, transparency becomes white and source metadata is omitted. A file that meets a byte limit can still fail other checks; this tool does not guarantee external form acceptance.

Start with a small example and check the result before using your own data.
