1. Choose this workflow

Create a grayscale PNG for a monochrome illustration or photo. The output keeps the original pixel dimensions.

2. Prepare your input

Choose a supported color image. Decide whether the destination needs gray shades or a two-color threshold.

3. Follow a worked example

A 120 × 80 color photo exports as a 120 × 80 grayscale PNG.

4. Check the result

Download and open the saved copy in your usual viewer. Compare it with the example and original: check dimensions, order, orientation and legibility where applicable. Extract ZIP exports and inspect their members. Keep your original until the output is checked.

5. Is this the same as a black-and-white threshold?

No. Grayscale preserves shades between black and white rather than forcing every pixel to one of two colors. This is not a print color-profile conversion.

6. Recover from an error

Read the file-type, size and processing limits on the tool page. An extension alone does not prove a file is valid. Try a small supported file or re-export from the source app. Protected or corrupt documents may need an authorized replacement. A successful click alone does not prove the saved copy is usable.

Try the workflow

Start with a small example and check the result before using your own data.
